The Anton Schwartz Quintet was awarded Northwest Acoustic Jazz Ensemble of the Year in 2017, and it’s no wonder why. Their music is delightfully complex and soulfully infectious for jazz experts & neophytes alike. Schwartz's band has headlined the nation's great jazz venues, including The Blue Note (NYC), Yoshi’s (Oakland), Jazz Alley (Seattle), Blues Alley (DC) and Jazz at Lincoln Center, plus countless jazz festivals. Each of Schwartz's five CDs as a leader has drawn sterling reviews and strong airplay; his most recent release Flash Mob earned a four star DownBeat review and a long run on the jazz radio Top 10 chart. Based now in Seattle, Schwartz is a longtime faculty member of the California Jazz Conservatory and has been artist-in-residence at Harvard University and the Brubeck Institute. Drummer Lorca Hart grew up in Taos, New Mexico and attended CalArts, where he studied with Albert "Tootie" Heath, Joe La Barbera, Charlie Haden, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others. Now based in San Francisco, he has performed with artists such as Ralph Moore, Carmen Lundy, Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Jordan, Craig Handy, Hugh Masekela, Bobby Rodriguez, the Clayton Brothers, Anthony Wilson and Julian Lage.
