The GRAMMY Camp – Jazz Session program identifies and selects top high school instrumentalists and singers from across the country to perform in either the GRAMMY Band, Choir, or Combo. Participants will take part in the GRAMMY Jazz Tour performing at a variety of venues during the week leading up to the GRAMMYs. Selectees will also record an album, and attend the 59th GRAMMY Awards.
Special Guest Artist: Joey Alexander
With Joey Alexander’s critically acclaimed debut album My Favorite Things, he became the youngest jazz artist ever to be nominated for two Grammy Awards (“Best Jazz Instrumental Album” and “Best Improvised Solo”). Joey followed My Favorite Things with his swinging new release “Countdown” which maintained the #1 spot at jazz radio for seven consecutive weeks. The album features Joey’s composer chops with three original compositions (“City Lights,” “Sunday Waltz” and “Soul Dreamer”). Joey has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, Esperanza Spalding, and also enjoys the support of Herbie Hancock, impresario George Wein and countless others. This 13 year-old pianist from Bali’s unlikely rise to the forefront of the jazz scene has been profiled by Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes; by Christiane Amanpour on CNN; by Lester Holt of The Today Show and NBC Nightly News, and has been featured in publications including Time Magazine, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Jazz Times, Jazziz and Keyboard Magazine.
